Our Family Planning Program is designed to provide services that will reduce the number of unwanted and unplanned pregnancies and promote positive health practices. Family Planning clinics are available at convenient locations throughout the community.

Family Planning Clinic
The primary goal of the open access/same day appointment Family Planning Clinic is to prevent an unplanned pregnancy in all women of child bearing age (including teens).
Services of the clinic include counseling and education on the following:
- Responsible decision making
- Sexually Transmitted Disease prevention, including HIV/AIDS prevention
- Birth control options
- Male (vasectomy) and/or Female sterilization
- Emergency contraception (including Plan B)
- Preventing unintended pregnancy
You will have the option to select a birth control method that best fits your lifestyle

What is Emergency Contraception (Plan B)?
Plan B is a birth control pill taken 24 to 72 hours after unprotected sexual intercourse. For more information on Plan B, please click here 
Male and Female Sterilization
A surgical procedure to permanently prevent pregnancy. For males, this is commonly called vasectomy. In this clinic you will receive counseling, education and referral to a surgical provider. For more information about these procedures, please click here

Medicaid - Family Planning Waiver Program
The Agency of Health Care Administration and the Department of Health are pleased to announce the implementation of the revised program to extend Medicaid coverage for certain family planning services. The Family Planning Waiver Program was developed to reduce infant deaths, unplanned pregnancies, and to help women receive family planning services. With the waiver program, women who have lost Medicaid coverage for any reason are provided limited family planning services for up to 24 months.
What services are covered in the Program?
• annual physical exams including a Pap smear,
• birth control supplies,
• pregnancy testing if indicated,
• limited treatment for sexually transmitted infections, and
• related medicines and lab tests.
Who can sign up for the Program?
• Women who have lost full Medicaid coverage since December 1, 2006 may be eligible for this program.
• To qualify for this special Medicaid program, a woman must:
- want to have family planning services;
- not be pregnant;
- not have had a hysterectomy or tubal ligation (tubes tied);
- have a household income less than or equal to 185% of the current federal poverty level;
- provide proof of identity and U.S. Citizenship.

How do I sign up for the Program?
• The Medicaid program will mail a letter and application to women who may qualify for services.
• Women will be sent a letter at the end of their first year of coverage that will indicate a need to reapply for services.
• Women interested in receiving these services, must complete an application (English 24.3kb, Spanish 25.8kb, or Creole 54kb) and mail or bring the application to their local county health department. The application can be viewed and downloaded from the links above but can not be submitted electronically. You must print the document, complete it and either mail or take the application to your county health department.
• Women who are interested in the program can contact the local county health department for the application mailing address or to schedule an appointment to review the application and find out if you qualify for the program.
