The Broward County Health Department (BCHD) Onsite Sewage Treatment and Disposal System (OSTDS) Program is located within the BCHD Environmental Engineering Section.

The primary function of the OSTDS program is issuing permits for the installation odd new, repaired or modified septic systems, and field inspection of installed septic systems for compliance with applicable state and local regulations. OSTDS staff conducts detailed plan reviews submitted by professional engineers, architects and land surveyors for new building construction, or existing building additions and/or alterations where septic systems are used or proposed to ensure compliance with all requirements.

Additionally, the OSTDS Program regulates septic tank contractors, septic disposal service companies, portable toilet service companies, septic systems serving industrial properties and related enforcement actions.
