Q: What are your counter hours of operation?

A: Our hours of operation are from 8 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

Q: If I come to your office during your hours of operation, can I receive my Birth Certificate right away?

A: Depending upon the volume of requests, you can experience a 20 to 30 minute wait. During lunch time (11:30 am to 2 pm), you can expect a longer wait.

Q: Do I need proper identification?

A: Yes.  Birth Certificates are confidential in the State of Florida.  You must provide a current valid Driver's License, Passport, or State Identification Card.

Q: What years do you have available for Birth Certificates?

A: 1930 to the present for anyone born in the State of Florida

Q: What years do you have available for Broward County Death Certificates?

A: Presently, we have death certificates for the years 2005 to the present.  You must have the correct month and year of the death in order for our office to issue a death certificate.

Q: What if I need a birth or death certificate from another country?

A: Persons in need of a copy of a foreign birth or death record should contact the Embassy or the nearest ConsulateLink will open in a new window in the U.S. of the country the birth or death occurred.  You can also contact the Office of Overseas Citizens Services at:

Q: What is your turn around time on mail requests?

A: Up to 14 working days

Q: Do I have to have the birth application notarized before mailing to your office?

A: If you have the application notarized, no ID is necessary. If it is not notarized, you must send us a copy of your current valid Driver's License, Passport, or State Identification Card to process your application.

Q: Can I order a birth or death certificate by fax?

A: No, at present time birth and death certificate orders can not be accepted by fax.
