The Office of Emergency Operations is responsible for coordinating the preparation, response, recover and mitigation to natural and man-made disasters/emergencies (including terrorist acts) that have or possibly could have public health and/or medical consequences.
Our best defense against the impact of disasters is to have a well-informed and prepared public.

The Office of Emergency Operations supports the Florida Department of Health’s overall Mission and Public Health Preparedness Strategic Plan, as well as the Florida Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan. This is accomplished by providing leadership, direction, guidance, support and coordination in the areas of:
• disaster mitigation
• preparedness
• response
• recovery
An effective Public Health Preparedness / Emergency Operations program should always remain as one of the highest priorities of state and local government. An effective program must work hard to:
• Anticipate and manage all possibilities
• Consider all options
• Be prepared
• Work together with all partners
Individual organizations and citizens must also accept responsibility to be aware of the risks involved from terrorist acts, disease outbreaks, natural or man-made disasters and other public health threats. Our community should be prepared, within their own means and abilities, to be protective when necessary, for their own safety, as well as that of their families, friends and property. Only through a proactive partnership between the public and private sectors can all the citizens of Broward County be best protected and served.
