The Broward County Health Department’s (BCHD) Environmental Engineering Section
regulates the construction and modification of public swimming pools. The
purpose of this program is to protect the health and safety of the users of
public pools. Before construction or modification of a public pool, written
approval must be obtained from this department. Construction and modification
plans must be prepared, signed and sealed by a professional engineer licensed in
the State of Florida. Examples of modifications which would require approval
include non-equivalent changes or additions to filtration and treatment
equipment or to the pool structure.
Twice yearly inspections of pools are conducted by the BCHD’s Environmental
Health Section.
