Application for Death Certificate Death Certificates ordered through our regular mail order service take 10 to 14 business days to process and must include a self-addressed, stamped envelope. For an additional fee we also offer Expedite ($10) and Overnight ($21) Processing services.

| Funeral Home Orders: For an additional fee, Funeral Homes who deliver their order requests by 10:00 a.m. can pick-up their completed order after 3:00 p.m. on the same day. The additional fee is per order, not per copy, for each individual deceased’s record. |
PAYMENT: Cash, Credit Cards, Money Orders, Cashier’s Checks or Bank Drafts are accepted. Personal Checks and Business Checks are accepted with certain restrictions.

IDENTIFICATION: Death Certificates that show cause of death, are not public record and may be issued to only certain individuals. Applicants for these certificates must present an official, picture identification card, such as their Driver’s License, Pass Port, or other State Identification card. All mail orders must include a copy of the applicant’s Drivers License or State Identification Card.
DEATH CERTIFICATES available for Broward County deaths only
Death Certificates are public record and anyone may obtain certified copies, which do not show the cause of death information. Certified copies of death certificates, which show the cause of death may only be issued to the deceased’s spouse or parent, or the deceased’s child, grandchild, or sibling, if of legal age, or to any family member who provides a will, insurance policy, or other document that demonstrates the family member’s interest in the estate of the deceased, or to any person who provides documentation that he or she is acting on behalf of any of them, or by court order directing to whom a death record may be issued. Cause of death information becomes public information 50 years following the death.
Cause of Death is NOT needed for Probate Issues such as Real Estate Taxes, Property Claims, Vehicle Title Transfers or Closing Bank Accounts.
Cause of Death IS needed for Legal Claims such as Life Insurance.
Death Certificates are available for persons who have died in Broward County from 2005 to the present. For dates other than those shown, Death Certificates can be obtained from State Vital Statistics office in Jacksonville.

The Broward County Vital Statistics office DOES NOT handle marriage licenses, divorce decrees, probate, wills, or Social Security.
