The Sexually Transmitted Disease Control Program continues to offer
traditional STD services including counseling and testing, partner notification
and contact tracing for syphilis, HIV, gonorrhea and chlamydia, and family
planning services.
The continual challenge facing the program staff is to be able to demonstrate
the flexibility to effectively provide culturally sensitive, gender specific,
lifestyle appropriate messages about sexually transmitted diseases to a very
diverse population, and to reduce the rates of early
infectious syphilis,
congenital syphilis, HIV, gonorrhea, and
chlamydia. In addition, we have begun to join forces with other health
department sections/programs and community based organizations and groups to
more effectively combat sexually transmitted diseases, including AIDS, in our
community.
